Laurie Passero, Founder and CEO MedPic, LLC

Laurie Passero is the founder and CEO of MedPic, LLC, which provides medical cost containment services to insurance companies, self-funded groups, third-party administrators, re-insurance companies and worker’s comp carriers. Founded in 2004 and formerly called Pickett Consulting, MedPic is dedicated to reducing the cost of healthcare. The company is located near Weatherford, TX.

With 20 years of experience in the medical cost containment industry, Laurie has been the leading force behind the growth of MedPic to become a trusted and reliable resource for clients seeking to better manage their healthcare costs. MedPic offers a complete cost containment solution, including medical and hospital bill auditing, billing and coding review, fee negotiation, case management, utilization review, and pre-certification.

Prior to founding MedPic, Laurie worked from 1994 to 2003 at National Care Network (NCN), which provided healthcare cost containment services. During her tenure she worked directly with the CEO to build the company from a two-person organization to multi-million dollar company that was acquired by Multiplan Inc. in 2011.

Laurie started at NCN as both an inside sales manager to help secure corporate clients and as a medical fee negotiator, where she consistently achieved at least 38 percent in net annual savings in healthcare costs for NCN clients. This savings was in addition to any fee reduction based on usual and customary
or PPO discounts.

As a senior account manager, Laurie was an instrumental leader in building the medical fee negotiation department at NCN, which at its peak employed 25 negotiators working on thousands of claims per month. She provided guidance in developing the department’s workflow processes, trained all new negotiators, and helped to design the company’s proprietary software system—all the while continuing to serve as the lead medical fee negotiator.

Prior to NCN, Laurie was a benefits coordinator at CoreSource, one of the nation’s largest third-party administrators. She also was a senior unit assistant at Aetna Insurance.

Laurie started her healthcare career by working as an X-ray assistant for HCA Hospital in Arlington. She has taught medical billing and coding at Weatherford College, part of the Parker County Junior College District in Weatherford. She also has served as an expert witness throughout the nation regarding healthcare reimbursement costs.

Laurie and her family live in Poolville, TX, where she actively volunteers with many local community organizations.
